Undergraduate STUDENT INTERNSHIPS – VICRA Local Food Project
The Vancouver Island Community Research Alliance’s (VICRA) Local Food Project provides
student training opportunities for students with academic and/or community interest in the
following food issue areas:
1.Indigenous food systems
2.Role of Academic Institutions and Institutional Purchasing
3.Urban Agriculture and Backyard Growing
4.Climate Change

Office of Community-Based Research: The Office of Community-Based Research at UVic
(OCBR-UVic) is a community-university partnership that supports community engagement and
research to create vibrant, sustainable and inclusive communities. OCBR-UVic is part of the
university’s strategic vision of increasing civic engagement and works with others on campus
engaged in service learning, continuing education and community relations.
VICRA: VICRA is an alliance of the five Island post-secondary campuses to support community-
based research. This Vancouver Island Local Food Project involves all campuses and community
partners engaging students from undergraduate and graduate backgrounds.
Project Overview:
STUDENT INTERNSHIPS – VICRA Local Food Project
The Vancouver Island Local Food Project provides student training opportunities for students with
academic and/or community interest in the following food issue areas:
5. Indigenous food systems
6. Role of Academic Institutions and Institutional Purchasing
7. Urban Agriculture and Backyard Growing
8. Climate Change
The project will be hiring 10 undergrad student research interns (2 from University of Victoria, 2
from Royal Roads, 2 from Camosun College, 2 from Vancouver Island University and 2 from
North Island College). Research interns will be paid a $2000 stipend (approximately $14/hour for
142 hours.) Some flexibility in the scheduling of the research hours is anticipated.
